Abbe paints a variety of scenes, featuring nature in the form of nautical scapes and trees. Additionally, paintings focus on shapes and colour reflecting a feeling rather than sight.
Her processes involve painting, scraping, inserting mixed media and rubbing back to find hidden elements within the works.
Smaller mixed media works are evolved through cutting and application, experimentation with mediums and scratching through paint. The use of Nepalese paper has been prominent in
the development of shapes, boats and light. Inspired by colour, water, boats and landscape, she creates work through intuition. Larger works explore mediums through construction, deconstruction and then construction again. Her larger works have also resulted in application resulting in textural outcomes.
Abigail Reid studied Visual Arts & Crafts BA (Major: Printmaking) at Edith Cowan University in 1988 and also acquired a BA Arts Management Degree from the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts in 1991. After a career in arts / events management and policy development, she currently looks after her three small children and works independently from her studio in Mosman Park Western Australia
